President Trump ramping up pressure on Iran, warning this could be the Islamic Republic’s final chance to reach a deal as diplomatic talks continue. >> Chief foreign correspondent Trey Yanks is live in Tel Aviv with the details. Hi Trey. >> Yeah. Hey guys, good morning.
While the Trump administration explores diplomatic options with Iran, the IRGC is continuing attacks in the Gulf. Overnight, at least one cargo ship was hit with an unknown projectile. According to maritime tracking groups, this was near the straight of Hormuz. And the incident comes as the US naval blockade remains in effect. Sentcom says that as of August 3rd, they have redirected 44 commercial vessels and disabled two others.
President Trump posted on True Social on Monday, in part saying, “Nothing gets through to Iran unless we want it to, and nothing will get through unless a deal or total surrender is accomplished.” The president went on to say whether Iran wants to admit it or not, we are in fact talking of a solution to a problem that they have caused. The president described the state of play with Iran yesterday from the Oval Office. We’re talking at the request of Iran, backed by Saudi Arabia, backed by UAE and backed by Qatar in particular, but others also many many countries called. They all wanted to give this a last chance.
This is a last chance. It’s not very complex. We’re talking about the straight, the opening of the straight, having it open literally by tomorrow. And phase two is we then will talk about the nuclear capacity. >> Reports indicate Iran and Oman are nearing a deal regarding control of the Strait of Hormuz and splitting service fees between them.
It’s not clear if these terms would be acceptable to the Trump administration that has maintained zero fees should be charged in this international waterway. Certainly, there are uncertain days ahead in the region as it’s unclear right now if a deal is going to be reached or if the Middle East will return to war. Guys, >> and we will be talking with Victoria Coats about that very topic coming up in a little bit. Trey, thank you.
