breaking from overnight a Houston police officer opened fire on the man with the gun after he climbed down three stories from an apartment balcony in Kingwood officers were called to the apartments on North Park Plaza Drive just off the Eastex Freeway after hearing screams for help ABC 13’s Courtney Carpenter is there live with the very latest authorities good morning to you Courtney good morning this apartment building HP got the call around 3 15 this morning they say it came in as an assault in progress they say that dispatchers were actually able to hear people screaming for help in the background of that call HP says when officers arrived they could still hear the yelling and screaming they believed it was a man and a woman fighting when no one answered the door they said that officers tried to actually break into the apartment to stop whatever was going on as they kept trying to get in they say the suspect a 28-year-old man started scaling down the side of the apartment from the third floor balcony HPD says a female officer who spotted him coming down gave him multiple commands to stop to put the gun down they say he ignored those orders and kept coming down the building here’s what they say happen next at the first level there was a physical altercation between her and him were where the officer fired one shot then the suspect disengaged and ran off so she ran after him but he was able to get away as they continued to look for him they said a woman at the apartment actually that opened the door officers were able to see injuries on her arm they say she may have had other injuries as well and while officers were taking care of her they say the suspect actually showed back up to the apartment he surrendered and asked for medical help he had been shot once in the lower part of his body he was saying in the hospital we were told he is expected to survive his injuries now police say the woman told them that she and the suspect had been in a relationship for a while that they were breaking up but still living in that apartment together HPD says they had had a previous call for service out here to this apartment some sort of disturbance they didn’t have any further details about what happened reporting live in Kingwood Courtney Carpenter ABC 13 Eyewitness News [Music]
