Demonstrations have been popping up across the nation protesting immigration and customs enforcement, including here in the Brazis Valley. Sophia Ridley spoke to a group of people who gathered in Brian today. I see everything wrong with what’s going on. And I mean, eyes coming into people’s homes, workplaces, and I mean, whether they’re, you know, they’re here, they’re here legally or not. I mean, they have earned their way here, have they not?
Demonstrators in Brian told KBTX they weren’t just protesting one issue. They held signs calling attention to the Trump administration, ICE, and even the war in Gaza. The support for Israel, right? And in the uh the genocide in Gaza, right? Just today, just this afternoon, Israel uh attacked Iran, which you know does not bode well.
Representative Paul Dyson says America was built on the right to peacefully protest, but cautions against escalations. We’re seeing protests are getting out of hand, and that requires a response to put that down because we’re not just going to have property damage, but we’re going to lose human lives when that happens. The Brian Police Department shared a statement saying they are aware of scheduled protests and will closely monitor the situation to ensure public safety while respecting the group’s constitutional right to peacefully assemble. Governor Greg Abbott has already responded in larger cities by deploying 5,000 National Guard troops as protests are expected to ramp up across the state this weekend. Texas is a law and order state and we will use every tool that we can to ensure order across our state.
That includes the deployment of Texas Department of Public Safety officers as well as Texas National Guard in strategic locations where they can provide the most robust response where needed. in Brian.
