More news to get to this morning and breaking news unfolding right now in northeast Houston. Police say an officer shot a suspect during a traffic stop. According to police, this all started as a traffic stop again on Tidwell New Hersh around 1:30 this morning. ABC13’s Brianna Willis is there live with more on what else we are learning. Good morning to you, Brianna.
>> Hey there. Good morning, Brandon. Well, I can tell you according to Houston police, that driver had a felony warrant when they tried to take him into custody. They then tell us that a struggle happened leading to officers tasing and then shooting that suspect. Now, investigators tell us this all unfolded around 1:30 this morning here on Tidwell and Hirs.
Officers say the driver and two passengers were in the vehicle when police attempted to conduct a traffic stop. Again, they say he had a felony warrant. And here’s what investigators say happened when they tried to take that suspect into custody. >> As officers attempted to take the suspect in custody, a struggle ensued. One officer tased the suspect.
The suspect continued to resist, resulting in one officer discharging his firearm. The suspect was transported to an area hospital in critical condition. Yeah. And at this point, they tell us that no one else was injured. But they also tell us, and it is worth noting that when we asked if that suspect was armed, they say that’s all part of this ongoing investigation.
