And investigators are now searching for a man who was wearing a Michael Myers mask who could be connected. So we know that this happened on Hawks Nest Drive near Ella and Greens overnight. You can see the map here. Our Courtney Fisher has been at the scene all morning long and has more on what we are learning about the man killed.
>> There are several layers to this story.
This father in his 30s. We’re told was shot and killed while he was in his garage. His two children home at the time. And now investigators tell us he was a person of interest in his estranged wife’s murder. That happened two and a half months ago.
Homicide detectives searched the Dodge Challenger on Hawks Nest Drive, looking for any clues that could help them understand why the owner was killed. Shot at least three times a few feet away. Detectives say it happened Halloween night around 11 p.m. When trick or treating was done, but authorities say several neighbors said they noticed a man in a mask walking down the sidewalk before hearing shots.
A neighbor’s camera caught this 15 minutes before precinct four deputies arrived. >> Are we you know, 100% sure that this was that person that did it? No, but yes, they they were stated that someone was wearing a Michael Myers Halloween mask. >> Carmen Peterson was the man’s estranged wife who was murdered back on August 16th. The 37 year old mother was shot to death while she slept in her bed at her apartment off FM 1960 Peterson’s sister spoke to us in September.
>> I never thought that you know, I would walk in on my sister, you know, just laying in the bed, you know, murdered in March, Peterson filed for divorce from her husband of 15 years, according to court documents.
>> Now, authorities confirm he was a person of interest in her unsolved murder. The couple shared three children together. Three children now left without parents.
